As I began trying to come up with ideas in which to write about on this site, it quickly dawned on me that there are literally thousands of things in which we humans collect. Some can be very expensive, others are only valuable to those doing the collecting. It all comes down to what each individual deems worthy to keep in their home.

Some can be very expensive, others are only valuable to those doing the collecting. It all comes down to what each individual deems worthy to keep in their home.
I'm finding it hard to decide on where
to start so I think I'll go with some ideas on where to find the
things we love to collect. I find my things in some of the strangest
places.
Garage Sales
I love a good garage/yard sale. You
can find a lot of things for next to nothing. Whether you're into
glassware, cookbooks, toys, or funky novelty items, you can usually
find them in this type of venue.
Flea Markets
I have to admit that I've only been to
a couple of these. We don't have a lot of them in this area, but
they are a treasure trove of items for all kinds of collectors. The
ones I've been to seem to have a wide variety of things to choose
from, but you really have to watch the prices. Sometimes these
people think their wares are worth a lot more than they really are.
Don't be afraid to do a little haggling, but don't get too
over-zealous. You might lose out on some really cool items.
Auctions
Because of all the auction shows on
television, auctions are becoming a great way to find things to add
to your collections. Depending on what it is that you're looking for
and how much you intend to spend should determine which auction
houses you visit. Some areas have specialty houses for higher end
items, but most small communities have auction houses where you can
find everything from costume jewelry and knickknacks to beautiful
furniture and hard to find items.
Classified Ads
It is possible to find some cool
collectibles in your local paper. Most newspapers have a section
where people can buy and sell their things are a reasonable price.
Always remember though, make sure you get details on the item and
never send money before getting your item. Make arrangements with
the seller before making any deals.
Facebook
Believe it or not, Facebook is a great
place to find collectibles. Many areas around the country have
localized online garage sales and post their items for others to see.
There are also hundreds of pages created for those who collect
specific items, making it easier to find that one piece you've always
wanted in your home.
There are only a few of the ways you
might check out when getting ready to add new items to your personal
collection. And though I'm sure there are many others, this is just
a way to get you started. Do you have a favorite place to find your
collected pieces? We'd love to hear about them.
